Up for bids is a very lightly circulated, completely original and problem free 1917 Mercury Dime from the Philadelphia mint. Beautiful “album tone”, especially on the reverse, the result of having spent 60-65 years in a Library of Coins album. Perfect coin for the collector on a budget, who’s building a date set of Mercury dimes. A few small marks, otherwise just the wear that comes from having spent 40 years in circulation.

This one comes from the second set that I assembled from circulation when I was a kid during the late 1950s. My Dad would get rolls of dimes at his bank, usually at a time, bring them home with him from work, and I would look through them. I would replace the “keepers”, re-roll them, and give them to Dad to take back to the bank for another cycle. I have no idea how many 1921s, 1921-Ds, 1926-Ss and other semi-keys I returned to circulation (because I only needed one for my collection), before I wised up and began to hang on to them.
Later in my collecting career, I would go down to main Treasury next to the White House and search through 0 bags of dimes, quarters and half dollars.
