Description
This pair of antique bifocals are in quite good condition for their age. Part of a large lot of eyeglasses purchased from a New England multi-generational family homestead, this was the only pair to feature bifocals. The glasses' frame have a tortoiseshell appearance; the wire and metal shown is bright gold colored, with no metal markings.
The glasses are antique and quite small, as was the fashion in other periods. They measure 4 inches wide including lens to lens excluding end pieces. The temples are flexible but measure about 4 inches to temple tips.
Please see all my photographs for more information. The bifocal effect of these glasses is achieved through overlaying thin pieces of lens atop the primary lens. The glass is in good condition but not perfect. There is moisture and some soiling between the lens. (The glasses had been pretty dirty and I wet them in order to clean them. I think the moisture might abate. Once again, please see photos for more detail.)
Please email with questions. I'm happy to send additional photos and measurements upon request.
